Tommy Fleetwood had congratulatory messages pour in from all over the sports world following his win at the Tour Championship on Sunday, but there was one particular shoutout that may have meant more than all the rest.
Fleetwood won the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia, with a score of 18-under, which was three shots better than second-place finishers Russell Henley and Patrick Cantlay. He also took home a $10M bonus for win ning the final event of the PGA Tour season and FedEx Cup playoffs.
The victory was the first of Fleetwood's career on the PGA Tour. He had come incredibly close with 30 top-five finishes prior to Sunday. In total, Fleetwood had played in 163 PGA Tour events without securing a win.
Tiger Woods was among those who acknowledged Fleetwood's hard-earned success.
Other star athletes who posted about Fleetwood include LeBron James and Caitlin Clark.
Woods enjoyed immediate success on the PGA Tour, so he may not know exactly how Fleetwood felt prior to Sunday. The 15-time major champion has endured plenty of adversity, however.
Some other members of the field from the Tour Championship even stuck around to celebrate Fleetwood's win, which was a great illustration of the type of respect his fellow golfers have for him.
