The Trinidad and Tobago Netball Association (TTNA), through president Debbie Ann Francois has hailed the contribution to the sport of former player and coach Sharon Castanada, who passed away on Saturday.

In a statement yesterday, Francois said: The netball fraternity is deeply saddened by the passing of Ms Sharon Castanada. Her contribution to the sport in Trinidad and Tobago was profound, especially when she proudly represented the red, white, and black at the World Netball Championships in 1983 and 1987. Sharons skill, flair, and passion for the game left an indelible mark on all who witnessed her play.

Francois stated further: Her passing is a tremendous loss to netball in Trinidad and Tobago, as she will always be remembered for the pride and joy she brought to the court and to our nation. On behalf of Netball Trinidad and Tobago, I extend heartfelt condolences to her family, loved ones, and the wider netball community.

Castanada, who also represented the country in basketball, was a member of the T&T team that earned the silver medal at the World Netball Championships in Glasgow, Scotland in 1987. For that achievement, the team was inducted into the local Sports hall of Fame.
