Ubisoft has introduced its first original non-fungible token game—Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles.

This free-to-play PC game, available through the Ubisoft Connect platform, leverages blockchain technology on the Oasys network.

Champion Tactics Revealed

In Champions Tactics, players assemble teams of fantasy-themed digital champions to engage in turn-based battles against other online players. The game offers free “ethereal champions”, non-NFT characters that can be used in both unranked and limited ranked matches. By completing in-game quests, players can unlock additional champions for free.

Ubisoft, the company known for popular franchises like Assassin’s Creed and Just Dance, also minted 75,000 champions as NFTs on Oasys, some of which are available for purchase on secondary marketplaces. Priced at around $10 worth of OAS tokens, these NFT champions offer unlimited use in ranked matches and provide extra rewards.

Players can further enhance their gameplay by merging two NFT champions to create a new, unique champion with specific visual and combat attributes.

As CNA reported, Ubisoft first launched a 10,000-piece NFT collection on Arbitrum via the Magic Eden marketplace, offering early access to Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E., a top-down shooter inspired by Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix and Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. Set in a dystopian world, the game features characters from Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed, Rayman, and Beyond Good & Evil.

Beware of Scammers

It’s always good to remember how important it is to stay safe when you’re interacting with new crypto products and services (and in general, too). This is because scammers love to capitalise on trending topics, popular products, as well as impersonating companies, individuals, and yes—NFT games, too.

A recent cyberattack linked to North Korea’s notorious Lazarus Group exploited a zero-day vulnerability in Google Chrome to target cryptocurrency investors through a fake NFT game, according to a report from Kaspersky.

The attack combined social engineering tactics with advanced hacking techniques to lure victims into downloading malware disguised as game software.

As always, beware of scammers, double-check and triple-check, and never click on anything until you’re 200% sure it is legit.
